Inaspace have enjoyed a five year association with Sanitarium, being charged with extending this revered, 110 year brand into the built environment and the everyday lives of Australians. Following the completion of the Sanitarium ‘Kitchen’ whole-foods Cafe in the Brisbane CBD, Inaspace undertook the ‘Sanctuary’ Health and Wellbeing Village in a magnificent heritage-listed building on the Sydney Harbour waterfront at Pyrmont. The brief was to create a totally unique facility – fully operational for a diversity of tenant practitioners whilst retaining the warmth of the original, predominately timber and brick building. The Village is home to general practitioners, naturopaths, counsellors, physiotherapist and day spa facility, with a studio area overlooking the harbour used for cooking demonstrations, seminars and exercise classes. Working closely with the City of Sydney Council, there were many challenges and some compromises arising from heritage fabric of the building. The result however, speaks for itself – truly unique in function and design, with an aesthetic and atmosphere reflective of the client’s ideals.
